As you know it's been a bit chilly around the ole US and Florida has not been exempt. We had to trade in a pair of shorts for all the "smart wools" we could find. Glad we brought our own from the North Country. I just have to hide mine from Nancy...
On our trip down from North Carolina we spent 3 nights in Brunswick, Georgia. While the weather there was about the same here, we did manage to tour around Jekyll and St. Simon's Islands. Very nice areas with a lot of old money in both areas from the early 1900's. I even left a little of mine there from the 2009 era. We took a day each for both the islands and took in a lot of history. There's even a pretty good sized campground at the end of Jekyll Island that we drove through, and it was quite full. Looked like a very nice park to stay at.
We arrived in south Fort Myers on Dec. 30th and threw on the shorts. After listening to the weather forecast we decided to head to Sanibel Island the next day, New Years Eve, as it was the only day in the next several days that was going to be in the 80's. We did spentd the day on the beach as you can see from the pictures. There were several dolphins in the area.
It's sad to be writing this post, as we are inside wearing jeans today. Yes, the fact of the matter is I've only been in shorts twice, and we've been here 12 days. While temps have varied from high 50's to middle 60's during the day, the lows at night have been in the 30's to 40's. Last night was our coldest yet at 33 degrees. (It has been colder further north and inland.)
We've went to Naples on Thursday, and there were lots of people on the beach in bathing suits! Must have been the ones from the north who have to leave soon.... We met with Nancy's friends and co-workers Jerry and Yuh Jin at the Shell Factory yesterday, had lunch and a nice afternoon, even though it rained all day. We had a nice fire at the community fire pit last night. Something about a fire and camping is just like apple pie and Chevrolet! It was a good night for a fire as it got down to 30 degrees. The temps are now on the upswing and, hopefully, the lows have moved back up north!
Our camping site in Fort Myers is nice; we will be here another week and then on to Port Charlotte for a week visiting Nancy's Aunt, Uncles and cousins. Well, with all this whinning about the cold weather I think we'll go have a glass. Here's to warmer day ahead!
