You Lost Your Mittens You Naughty Kittens

Burr’rrrrrrrrrrrrrr If we didn’t know better, we’d think we were back in Michigan! Well, we finally saw our shadow today; but figured 6 weeks is too long to wait to add to our blog so here we go.

We’ve been in two locations since Panama City. Our second stop was Homossosa, and we stayed there a week. We did a lot of visiting with Nancy’s Aunt, Uncle and cousin. Had a great time and had some great food while visiting. The weather was nice during the day and cool at night. Then we headed to our third stop and went an hour south to Hillsborough River State Park. We have had blue skies and sunny days, but only one day in shorts! The evenings have been great for camp fires (what’s that tell ya?)

We lost power in the park one day and decided to head out to Tampa for the day to catch up on emails at the library. Nancy decided she needed a haircut, and I decided I needed new glasses… Anyway, while she was getting her locks cut, I decided to clean my glasses while sitting in the truck. When I was finished, I was trying to decide whether I looked better with a right monocle or a left monocle? You see when you clean your glasses and the nosepiece breaks you have one of each.

You boy scouts know the motto, and I remembered it also. So I found my spare set of glasses in the glove box and put them on so I could see my new monocles. I decided that if I wore the monocles to Mexico our friends might notice something’s wrong…so luckily, my spares worked fine. I did have to take them to an eye doctor to get them adjusted as they were all catawampus. We then proceeded to have dinner out and headed back to the RV.

As I said it’s been a little cool. So when we woke the next day (and it was 44 degrees) we decided to go to town again and take in a movie; we did just that – saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (great movie). We had a nice day in Brandon and came back to another cool evening. I woke early (sometime in the middle of the night from a few Jim Beams) and found out the ‘ole toilet had no water! Water does freeze for sure at 28 degrees F! I decided I should take a look outside, and yep you guessed it…the hose was frozen. It seems like the whole campground had the same problem, but at least that’s as far as it went. After a few hours the hoses and the hookup spigots were thawed, and we were back in business. (Lessons learned - check outside temp. forecast and adjust drinks accordingly). It’s a cold walk to the comfort station……

It finally did warm up, and we have been back in the 70’s. We’ve been hiking and biking quite a bit and lots of campfires! Getting lots of use from our new hiking poles. We have seen so many armadillos that we thought of bringing one back home for a pet for someone…and
we found out that apples are a favorite staple of squirrels. Nancy lost hers, but one of the camp volunteers watched the little bugger eating it. Oh and I almost forgot, we were all
ready to watch the President’s Inauguration last Tuesday and the whole campground lost power (power problem or the rangers are Republican) so we missed it…DARN!

What great stories!
Armadillos? Incredible! They're amazing, please take more photos for me for reference. Squirrels and apples, huh?
