Now, It’s Finally Beaches & Fun - Under The Sun

Well, we left Hillsborough State Park. Our 4th stop has us in Naples. We are currently at Club Naples RV Resort and have been here 2.5 weeks. We finally found the real Florida for winter temperatures and sunshine. Finally able to start tanning.
Our first night here we attended a dinner dance and met a lot of nice people. I must say you meet people from all walks of life while RVing. We have been to the old historic downtown district in Naples a few times since we have been here. It’s a very nice area to walk around and great restaurants. We especially enjoy lunch at “The Dock” which is close by Tin City on the marina.

Of course, one of the reasons we picked Naples this year is it’s close proximity to the Everglades. We’ve been there twice so far this trip. We explored Everglade City our first time and ate stone crab and alligator ribs (have to try it once right)? We went back for the Seafood Festival a week later. It’s Everglades City hoop-de-do for the season. Also hiked in Big Cypress Preserve looking at some of the oldest tress in Florida and of course saw plenty of Gators and even a bald eagle. Not to mention numerous other birds that I don’t know the names of. .

Staying in the Naples area lands us close to one of our favorite beaches that being Sanibel Island. This is our second year in a row going there and from last year we learned to drop Nancy and our stuff off at the beach while I drove back to the visitors center and parked free and rode my bike back (about a mile) to spend the entire day there. Of course, visiting Sanibel is not complete unless you eat at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grill. This is a great island for both beaches (Captiva and Sanibel) and biking!

We are also close to Marco Island and visited Marco twice; the first time to drive around and become acquainted and the second to spend the day at Tigertail Beach. This beach (after you walk across the inlet or around) has to be the seashell capital of Florida. The beach on the Gulf is humungous!

This RV park has a lot of activities everyday for anyone interested. We’ve done a lot of biking here in the park and a 6.5 and 12.2 mile bike trip outside. Life has been good until yesterday when we finally went golfing. Nancy has another scorecard to frame; does that tell you something? (and I did not give her any strokes!) We golfed with another couple from Boston. Very nice people who like us have 3 daughters and would you believe she retired from the IRS? (another bean counter) I had a nice day with them but not the course and of course Nancy’s smiling for two days does not help. The game “Sequence” has not been good to me either!
Well, we leave here Wednesday Feb. 18th and head down to the Keys. That’s it for now. I have to finish my Traverse City Cherry wine. (TC’s wine is good this time of the year..down here.)
