I still hear your sea winds blowin' I still see her blue eyes glowin' She was almost 61, when I left Galveston.. OK, corny so what? That's where we were Mar. 19 through Mar. 25th. Actually, we stayed in Crystal Beach, TX about 10 miles from the ferry that runs to Galveston for free 24/7. Pretty nice to get a free car ferry these days. Only a 20-minute boat ride to Galveston Island, Texas. Crystal Beach was hit pretty hard in 2008 by hurricane Ike, and the area is still in the process of rebuilding. There is a 14-mile area that was totally wiped out except for one house that was not touched. Very errie to see. Galveston was hit as well, but seems to have recovered faster and by comparison is in pretty nice shape. The picture above is on the car ferry to Galveston. Eating there is a -

Now, while we were there we did tour the oil rig in the picture, named the "Ocean Star". This is an original oil rig that has since been retired and turned into a museum. I don't think Nancy found it as interesting as I did, but she did get into the spirit of things when they were looking for new employes to earn a couple of bucks doing some major maintenance work while on board. The picture speaks for itself, and we needed the extra money cause we like shrimp and I can't catch em so we have to buy em... She went from numbers to "roughneck" overnight!

Crystal Beach is on a peninsula. The campground we stayed at had the Gulf on one side and Galveston Bay on the other. The weather was hot, but windy every day. The beach area is like Daytona Beach as you can drive 15 to 20 miles on the beach. I don't think we could live down here due to the risk of being in a hurricane. After talking to a few of the locals though they love it. Well anyway, after work it's always a good time to go to your favorite watering hole and cool off. That's what we are doing here at the Stingaree bar and restaurant.

We're off and running and have already left the Galveston area as you are reading this. Time is flying by, and it's almost a week later but you'll just have to wait and return to the ole blog to find out where we are or where we were!
