From Durham NC 11-23-07

Day 3

Planned on touring Duke University, but when we went to leave in Laura's van the right rear tire was sitting on the rim. This turned out to be a training class for Laura and Jimi on changing a tire and putting on a spare. Finally on the road we went to Chapel Hill and toured UNC. Finished up the evening beating Jimi and Laura at "Outburst". Saw 5 deer on the way back to the campsite that night.

Day 4

Toured the Sarah P. Duke gardens at Duke University. Beautiful! Jimi and Laura had dinner, a movie and a sleepover at the camper.

Day 5

Sadly left Jimi and Laura's. Headed to Norm & Barb's (Nancy's cousin). Spent 2 days with them. Great hospitality. They are on Lake Greenwood in South Carolina. Visited historic Abbeyville and ate lunch at a Mennonite restaurant with great food. Weather was a little cool & wet.

Day 8

Left Norm & Barb's and headed to St. Augustine, Florida for 2 nights. Talked with an old time camper originally from Maine. Been retired almost 25 years and very interesting to talk to. Was a pipe fitter who worked on submarines.

Day 9

Spent the whole day walking around St. Augustine - wonderful old city (1565). Lots to see and do with a ton of history. Weather was in the 70's & overcast. Had lunch at Barnacle Bills and sat next to an Air Force Major General and a few Colonels but they didn't remember me. Hmmm I guess they were too young back then...Ha!

Day 10

Drove to Daytona Beach (1.5 hours) and set up camp - 82 degrees so a little hot. Had a relaxing day after that. Rained all night - great sleeping!

Day 11

Sitting in the truck on the beach at Daytona Beach writing this blog. We're on the beach you can drive on. Pretty neat. Would be even better if the weather cooperated - it is 70 and cloudy.

Heading to Disney on Monday, December 3rd. Will update in a few days.
